Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic Therapy

The benefits of aquatic therapy are well documented in clinical research. Water is one of the best environments for improving motion, flexibility and function and the warmth of the water allows muscles to relax and reduces pain. The natural buoyancy of water reduces the effects of gravity making exercises/activities easier to perform. With specialized equipment, water can also be used for muscle strengthening.

Aquatic therapy is beneficial for patients with pain syndromes from arthritis or injury; limitations in joint range of motion; muscle weakness or tightness; and/or balance and mobility deficits. The therapeutic pool at Sunnyview with a hydraulic floor for safe and easy access by all patients is maintained at a comfortable 88 to 92 degrees Fahrenheit. The depth of the pool is adjustable to accommodate both pediatric and adult patients. The pool may used by patients as a component of a formal inpatient or outpatient Physical or Occupational Therapy program, as well as, by members of the Sunnyview Lifestyle Wellness Center.

Aquatic Therapy may be used for individuals with Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, Upper or Lower Extremity Lymphedema, and varying arthritic and orthopedic conditions.
